  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt


  • 4 tbsp Butter


  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 sticks butter, room temperature

  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate syrup
  • ¼ cup bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup milk chocolate syrup



  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a cookie sheet with cooking spray, then set aside.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into a medium bowl.
  • Mix butter and shortening in a large bowl with an electric mixer on low until well blended.
  • Add the sugar gradually, beating at high speed until well combined.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Alternately add the flour mixture and milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture.
  • Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture just until no white streaks remain.
  • Pour batter onto a prepared cookie sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool in the pan on a wire rack for 10 minutes.
  • Transfer to a serving platter.


  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Spray a 9-inch springform pan with cooking spray, then set aside.
  • Whisk together the milk, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda in a medium bowl until there are no clumps of dry powder left.

  • On low speed, add the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture and mixing well after each addition.
  • Divide the batter between the two pans and bake until the cake springs back when touched in the center, about 30 minutes. Let the cakes cool completely.
  • Cut the cakes into wedges.
  • To assemble the cake: Arrange the cake layers on a serving platter or cake stand. Top each layer with a generous amount of chocolate frosting.
  • Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Serve chilled.
