Can It Make in an Instant Pot?
Yes, you can make butter chicken in a pressure cooker (it simply won’t be as tasty as the broiled version). Here’s how I’d go about it:
- Marinate the chicken in the mixture as recommended.
- In the Instant Pot, sauté the onion in butter for about 6 minutes on the saute setting. After that, add the garlic, ginger, and spices and cook for 1 minute.
- After turning off the instant pot, add the tomatoes, chicken stock, and chicken combination.
- Cover the valve and turn it to the “sealing” position. Cook for 6 minutes on high pressure.
- When the timer goes off, quickly release the chicken pieces and remove them. Using an immersion blender, purée the sauce and let it cool somewhat.
- Add the cream and mix well. Then add the chicken and cilantro to complete.

Easy Indian Butter Chicken Recipe
- 1 cup butter, divided
- 1 onion, minced
- 1 tbsp minced garlic

- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1½ pound skinless, boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized chunks
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 tbsp tandoori masala
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius)
- In a medium-sized pan, melt a couple of tablespoons of butter. Stir in the onion and garlic and simmer, medium heat, for approximately 15 minutes, or until the onion has caramelized to a dark brown color.
- Meanwhile, cook the remaining butter, tomato sauce, heavy cream, salt, cayenne pepper, and garam masala in a pan over medium heat. Put to a low simmer, covered, and cook for 30 minutes, stirring gently. Then add the onions that have been caramelized.
- While the sauce is boiling, cover cubed chicken breast in vegetable oil, season with tandoori masala, and layout on a baking sheet.
