Heat a grill pan over medium heat. Toast about 5 sliced garlic cloves under the grill until golden brown. Remove from the heat and let cool.

Sprinkle about 2 teaspoons each of chopped rosemary, thyme, and chives on a piece of bread. Top with the toasted garlic and herbs.

Spread a layer of cream cheese on the toasted bread‍

Top the toasted bread with a layer of cream cheese. Sprinkle with a bit of smoked salmon and capers.

Cook on the grill‍

Respray the grill with olive oil and place the bread on the grill. Grill on each side until the bread is crispy and lightly charred on the bottom.

Ingredients

  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 4 slices White bread
  • 4 slices smoked salmon
  • 4-6 pieces avocado
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese
  • 2 tbsp sunflower seeds
  • 2 tbsp fresh chives (optional)

Instructions

  • Mix the egg and salt until the egg is foamy.
  • Spread the cream cheese on 4 slices of bread. Then top the cream cheese with half of the avocado, sunflower seeds, and chives.
  • Top the avocado and sunflower seeds with half of the smoked salmon.
  • Place another slice of bread on top and press down firmly.
  • Heat a frying pan over medium heat and pour 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into the pan.
  • Once the oil is hot, carefully place the sandwich in the pan. Cook the sandwich until golden brown. Flip the sandwich over and cook the other side for 5 more seconds.
  • Repeat steps 1 through 6 with the remaining 4 slices of bread, cream cheese, avocado, sunflower seeds, and smoked salmon.
  • You can serve the smoked salmon toast immediately or refrigerate it for later.

Notes

  • I use smoked salmon for this recipe. But, if you don’t have it, you can use regular salmon or trout.
  • You can also use canned salmon, but I highly recommend using real salmon. It tastes much better than canned salmon.
  • Make sure to use good-quality mustard. Some of the cheaper ones taste horrible.
  • It is also important to season the salmon with salt and pepper. If you put too much salt in it, it will kill the delicate flavor of the salmon. But the salmon will only have the right flavor if you season it enough.
  • I like to use a mix of black pepper and white pepper. The white pepper gives it a more subtle and less spicy kick. But if you want to spice it up, use black pepper.
